(More customer reviews)This waffle iron is great, and I've had several different brands/models so I speak from past experience (I make waffles at least twice a week). It heats up quickly and the controls are very logical. The darkness adjustment has a very nice range - from VERY light to quite dark.If your waffle recipe has no sugar at all, I suggest adding just a tad to aid browning.Without sugar, it is difficult for proper caramelization to occur.
This waffler has great audible signals, so you can make waffles while you're walking around the kitchen doing other stuff - there's no need to watch for a light to turn off. That is a feature I especially enjoy, because it's quite boring to sit and watch a waffle maker cook or wait for it to heat up.I whip up my waffle batter and start making waffles while I'm preparing the rest of breakfast. When I hear a beep, I turn around, pull the waffle out, add more batter, and go back to what I was doing.
To get the most enjoyment from your waffler, I recommend purchasing a portioning scoop.A scoop will change your life when making waffles and pancakes - measuring cups just don't work a tenth as well.A #10 scoop is just about perfect, because if you fill it up with thick waffle batter and don't level it off, you'll get almost a perfect half-cup of batter, which is exactly what this waffler handles well.A #12 is fine too, but you will have to really overload it if you don't want to leave any space. A #8 is too big - it would need to be leveled off, which is a messy pain. This waffler will make perfect waffles with no incomplete edges if you have a properly leavened recipe and use exactly 1/2 cup of batter.
The shape of these waffles were a surprise to me - I was expecting a thicker Belgian waffle of the type you see in restaurants.Instead, these waffles are more like large Eggo waffles and are just over one-half inch thick.I was actually happy to see that, as Belgian waffles are not preferred by waffle connoisseurs because they don't have the right interior-exterior balance. In my opinion, these waffles are PERFECTLY shaped and just the right thickness. They also split apart nicely without tearing, which is nice if you only want a half-waffle.
Finally, this waffler is quite easy to clean. If you stick to the half-cup rule, you will very rarely have overflow, and in that case it has a nice channel to catch the drips, which usually end up cooked anyway and easily lift off with the waffle.
One last thing - here's the recipe I recommend using with this waffler.I've had great results with it.I will assume you properly know how to mix together ingredients (i.e., wet and dry mixed separately, then put together until moist but still lumpy - DON'T OVERMIX).Wet:1 3/4 c. buttermilk or homemade yogurt, two eggs, 1 tbsp. sugar, 1 tsp. salt, 4 tbsp. melted butter.Dry:2 c. unbleached flour, 3/4 tsp. baking soda. These ingredients yield enough batter for about 7 waffles with this waffle maker, and each waffle will have about 250 calories. These waffles freeze very well if you let them air-dry on a rack and then stack them up in a freezer bag; they come apart easily while frozen, just reheat in a toaster oven for easy and quick morning breakfasts. There is NO REASON to buy supermarket frozen waffles anymore!
Safety note:Probably not a great appliance for kids to use alone, as the top and bottom both get very hot and the top swings free when the lid is open.

Product Description:
Perfect for waffle lovers, this countertop appliance bakes deep-pocket Belgian waffles in as little as 90 seconds. Simply poor in the batter, lower the lid, and it takes care of the rest, with no need to flip--both sides cook at the same time for even browning. In addition, the waffle maker's Quad baking system makes it possible to select the ideal texture and color for truly customized waffles. Using the texture select switch, choose either the fast-bake mode for waffles that are crispy on the outside and light and fluffy on the inside or the deep-bake mode for waffles with a more uniform texture. Its unique "floating" top plate helps ensure uniform thickness and even baking. Because the unit delivers fast heating on the "crisp exterior/moist interior" setting and heats up quickly in between bake cycles, it's easy to prepare waffles about as fast as they can be eaten. Other highlights include a high-quality nonstick griddle surface for effortless release, an easy-to-clean overflow channel, a "waffle ready" beeper, "baking" and "ready" indicator lights, built-in cord storage, and the option to store the unit in a space-saving, upright position. Great-tasting waffle recipes come included. The waffle maker measures approximately 12 by 12-4/5 by 5-1/5 inches and carries a one-year limited warranty.
